Author Biography

    Ariane Dewey was born August 17, 1937 in Chicago, Illinois.  She received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Sarah Lawrence College.  Dewey's first husband, Jose Aruego, is also a children's book author.  They divorced in 1973, but they continue to collaborate on children's books.  The author's second husband's name is Claus Dannasch. Dewey has one son, Juan Dewey Aruego.  Her hobbies include kayaking and bird watching.
    Dewey is best known for her picture books.  "Mushroom in the Rain" and "Owliver" were both ALA Notable Books.  "Herman the Helper" was a Boston Globe-Horn Book Picture Book Honor Book in 1974.
