She graduated with honors from the University of California majoring in English. From age four to nineteen, Jurmain appeared on a number of television shows for children and adults and studied acting at New York City's High School of Performing Arts. After college, she worked as an editor and a museum tour guide before beginning her career as a children's writer. Because Jurmain enjoys stories about the past and always wanted to travel in a time machine, she primarily writes nonfiction books about history.
